2024-2025 Varsity Tournament Page
The VEWL holds a two day tournament at the end of each year for our Varsity wrestlers. The dates for this years tournament will be Saturday, 02/08/2024 and Sunday, 02/09/2024 at Stroudsburg High School.
The first day of the tournament will determine the 12 wrestlers that will carry on into the second day of the tournament. The first day of the tournament we take the teams from our Northern divisions and put them into a bracket and advance the top 6 wrestlers to Day 2. We also take our teams from the Southern divisions and do the same thing. These 12 wrestlers will make up our Day 2 Championship 12 man bracket and do battle for the top 8 spots in each weight class.
By splitting the tournament out in such a way, we feel we give every wrestler the opportunity to grab their GOLD medal in each weight class. As we go into the 2nd day of the tournament, all records and performances through the year are erased and you start a new tournament with a fresh 0-0 record. The seeding for the second day is determined by your finishing position from the first day. With eight places being awarded, every wrestler has an opportunity at placing. Also, the tournament is a double elimination tournament on both days.
*** The 2021 season was wiped out due to the pandemic. The season and all tournaments were cancelled!!! ***
*** Starting with the 2022 season, in memory of our long time Referee assigner and great friend Bob Getz, we have created the Bob Getz Pinner Award for the most pins in the least amount of time. The award in 2022 was presented by Bob's wife Deb and his son Mark. ***
